Design
Front View
As the primary visual component of the keyboard, we avoided overly complex designs. The addition of the F13 key ensures harmony and symmetry in the 7u layout, while also providing extra key functionality in the 6.25u layout. The keyboard follows the "Dot & Line" design philosophy, featuring rounded dots and curves for a cohesive, soft aesthetic.
The visual focal point on the front is the light strip above the arrow keys, continuing the "Dot & Line" theme. The strip is divided into two parts:
• Dot: A tactile button for adjusting RGB lighting. • Line: An elongated ambient light strip.
The metal trim of the light strip extends to the middle frame, enhancing design cohesion.
As the debut product of the Project: Alteration series, Hydro 8X embodies modularity through its interchangeable blockers. The name "8X" originates from this feature: two WKL-style blockers and two HHKB-style blockers are included, allowing users to experience three layouts with a single keyboard (Note: WKL and HHKB layouts require a 7u spacebar).
Side View
The side design adopts a layered construction, combining the top case, bottom case, and decorative weight in a golden ratio (0.618) for visual harmony. The metal trim extends seamlessly to the middle frame, highlighting your unique configuration. Rounded edges on the top case, rear opening, and bottom case ensure a refined, ergonomic profile.
The USB-C port features a "sandwich" design, where the curved bottom case (crafted from varied materials and finishes) is nestled between the top case and decorative weight. This creates striking visual layers, with matching curvatures for aesthetic unity. The keyboard’s name is subtly engraved on the right side.
To showcase personalized configurations, the front-side panel also employs a layered design, adding visual intrigue and allowing users to admire their setup.
Back View
The back design emphasizes versatility through three elements:
1. Upper Decorative Weight: Features minimalist "Dot to Line" engraved patterns for understated elegance. 2. Central Recessed Strip: Displays the studio’s name, complemented by dual raised strips that contrast with the engraved grooves for depth. 3. Lower Extended Base: Completes the layered aesthetic while balancing proportions.
For enthusiasts seeking premium weight options, we offer full copper variants: • 1.1kg Copper Weight (red brass + yellow brass) • 2.95kg Full Copper Base (red brass + yellow brass) All copper components are treated with transparent nano-coating to prevent oxidation.
Structure and Internals
As a daily-use 80% layout keyboard, internal durability is paramount. Users can choose from three structures:
