Description
VØID 65% Top Mount + O-Ring Keyboard
0. Status Group buy starts on 9th Sep to 30th Sep 2024 Based on the feedback we've received from the community, we know how important the use of metal inserts is. After giving it some thought, we’ve decided to include metal inserts for the polycarbonate version to improve the durability and lifespan of the screw threads—especially since custom keyboards tend to be built and rebuilt often.
1. Intro Hello everyone! Allow me to introduce Void, a 65% layout mechanical keyboard kit with a dual mounting system, top mount and o-ring mount. Void provides an adjustable typing experience that allows users to customize the stiffness and sound characteristics. Users can choose between a top mount for a stiffer typing experience and sound, or an o-ring mount for a softer typing experience and isolated sound.

3. Design With a design language similar to my past work on the stacked acrylic keyboard Vertizon, Vøid offers an aggressive look while still maintaining a clean design.
4. Specifications - Layout: 65% - Mounting system: Top mount and gummy o-ring mount - Typing Angle: 7.5° - Effective keyboard height: 23.35mm - Plate: 1.5mm Aluminium, Polycarbonate, POM, Carbon Fiber, FR4 (1.6mm) - PCB: In-house design PCB void65 1.6mm thickness solder or hot-swap - configurable with QMK/VIA - Weight before assembly: ± 1019g aluminum kit, 1639g copper kit - Weight after assembly: ± 1355g aluminum kit, 1962g copper kit
Parts included with the kit: - Keyboard case: (Top case, Bottom case, Rear bumper, Bottom plate) - Plate (Aluminium, Polycarbonate, POM, Carbon Fiber, FR4) - 1.6mm Hotswap/Solder PCB; layout information will be shared later - Daughterboard JST Cable - 1x O-ring (50a) 1x O-ring (30a) - 4x Custom-designed rubber feet - Hand-carry keyboard bag - Other accessories
5. Constructions
Vøid consist 4 major parts: 1. Top case with aluminum 6063 2. Bottom case with aluminum 6063 3. Rear bumper with aluminum 6063 or Stainless steel 4. Chassis/bottom cover with aluminum 6063 or Copper
In the 4th iteration, we optimized the height of the overall board to find the ideal typing height, as we believe typing height would be a crucial factor in achieving comfortable typing. We reduced the EKH height from 25.49mm in the previous iteration to 23.35mm, which is a decrease of approximately 2.14mm.
We also added some gutter to optimize the travel distance for SMT components from the PCB, such as diodes, micro controller, and hotswap sockets, while keeping the overall board volume.

9. Layout
Solder layout provides more flexibility, including stepped Caps Lock, ISO, split Backspace, 7u + 6.25u spacebar, and the "cursed" layout. The cursed layout allows users who don't like arrow keys to experience the Void.
While hotswap will offer less flexibility compared to the solder version, it still supports stepped caps lock and split backspace compatibility.
10. Pricing Aluminum kit: starts from $280 Case: Aluminum 6063 Back weight: Aluminum 6063 Bottom weight: Aluminum 6063
Prototype#4 1. Redesign bottom case for lower typing height 2. Add gutter for better clearance and travel distance for smt component on the PCB
Prototype #3 1. Add inner wall for friction fit o-ring 2. Try other material than aluminium, such as copper, stainless steel, and carbon fiber
Prototype #2 1. Remove gasket leaf mount options 2. Redesign exterior design due to leaf mount removal, side bezel is thinner 3. Custom molded rubber feet 4. Changed case screw size from M2.5 to M3 5. Move jst cable gutter to back side of the case for better cable management
Prototype #1 1. Initially, Void is designed to support multiple mounting such as gasket leaf mount that supports poron, silicone socks, and silicone gasket.
